There were some outstanding games this weekend in the Premier Division seeing no side win by more than seven points.
Division One also had its own thrills and spills as Kells just held off Skirlaugh and Ince Rose Bridge came out on top in another points parade over Myton Warriors. Perhaps the surprise result came from improving Featherstone Lions who pipped Wigan St Patricks.
There was an excellent result for Dewsbury Celtic in Division Two against Normanton Knights while there were draws for Dewsbury Moor and Hunslet Warriors, and Clock Face Miners and Heworth, underlining the closeness of the competition.
East Leeds remain unbeaten in Division Three but there were notable victories for Seaton Rangers over Waterhead Warriors, Drighlington against Oldham St Annes and Millom over Leigh East.
We focus on the Premier Division clash between Hunslet Club Parkside and West Hull.
Hunslet Club Parkside 29 West Hull 22
Hunslet Club Parkside continued their excellent NCL record against West Hull and moved up to third in the table following a thrilling encounter before the OuRLeague cameras on Saturday.
Both sides put on a good show with Hunslet Club Parkside initially dominating to take an 8-0 lead.
The first try came after five minutes when Connor Squires found some space on the left flank, surging to halfway before his inside pass found Craig McShane and the fullback was just able to hold the defence off long enough for the score. Danny Rowse goaled to make it 8-0 and when West Hull gifted a penalty in a prominent position, Rowse slotted from 25 metres.
Heading into the second quarter of the game West Hull responded in fine style when Ryan Steen popped the ball out of a tackle and Ryan Wilson grounded by the posts for England Community Lions hopeful Keiran Welburn to convert.
By this time West Hull were starting to impose themselves and Benn Arbon looked for Luke Moss on the left, only for Jake Dearden to intercept magnificently and sail down the other end of the ground for a try against the run of play. Rowse goaled and added a further penalty to make the advantage 16-6 to the hosts but West Hull put their second try on the board after a short run to the line by Arbon. Welburn was unable to goal and, sensing there wasn't much time remaining, Rowse missed with a drop goal attempt at the other end.
Leading 16-10 at half-time, first blood in the new half went the way of Hunslet Club Parkside, and this time there was no denying Rowse who dropped a goal from twenty metres after just four minutes of play.
The competitiveness of the game was obvious for all to see and injuries began to stack up for both sides with Steen and Jack Ridsdill off the field for West Hull and Rowse assisted off for Hunslet Club Parkside.
With Andy Hullock now pulling the strings, the hosts still seemed to have the edge before Craig McShane was sin-binned for a dangerous-looking tackle on Arbon. During his absence, Arbon and fellow second row Matt Kingdom claimed tries with Welburn's third goal making it 17-22 to the visitors.
Wide passing created a chance for Will Cohen to fly in at the corner for Hunslet with ten minutes remaining and Hullock had nerves of steel to goal from the touchline and villain McShane became a hero once again with a startling try five minutes from time that saw him beat six players on his way to a second score and Hullock hit his second goal to seal Parkside's win.
