Betfred Super League Round 10 round-up

Jai Field scored a stunning try in the dying minutes as Wigan beat Salford 30-24 in a thrilling Betfred Super League encounter at the DW Stadium.

Wigan led 24-12 through tries from Field, Kaide Ellis, Liam Farrell and Harry Smith, with Salford responding through King Vuniyayawa and Matt Costello.

The Red Devils came out all guns blazing in the second half and tries from Alex Gerrard, plus an interception score from Ken Sio saw them level the scores, only for Field to collect an attempted field goal from Morgan Escare and race the length of the field to score the winning try.

The win took Wigan level on points with leaders St Helens, who lost 30-10 at Castleford on Friday.

Derrell Olpherts scored two tries and fellow winger Jason Qareqare also touched down to hand Saints their second defeat of the season.

St Helens handed seven players their debut, including three in the starting 13, and found themselves behind after just 25 seconds through Qareqare's brilliant try.

But after seeing an 18-0 lead trimmed to 18-10, the home side were grateful to a brace of late tries from Joe Westerman and Mahe Fonua to register a fourth consecutive league victory.

Hull FC turned in one of their most controlled performances of the season to defeat high-flying Catalans Dragons 14-8 and move into the top four.

Jordan Lane and Chris Satae scored the tries for the home side and Jake Connor slotted over three kicks, with Fouad Yaha and Mitchell Pearce crossing for the visitors as they threatened a late fightback.

Leeds picked up their second win of the season after coming from behind to beat bottom side Toulouse 25-14 at Headingley.

Two days after announcing the appointment of Rohan Smith as head coach, the Rhinos fell behind against the run of play through Paul Marcon, but hit back with tries from James Donaldson and Brad Dwyer to lead 12-6 at half-time.

Rhinos extended their advantage through Tom Briscoe and although Matty Russell replied for Toulouse, Dwyer's second try meant a late score from Junior Vaivai was merely a consolation for the visitors.

Hull KR recorded a 32-10 win over Wakefield in their first match since coach Tony Smith's shock announcement of his end-of-season departure.

Rovers led 16-0 at half-time and winger Ethan Ryan scored two tries in six minutes early in the second half to ensure a sixth straight win in all competitions for a side already 80 minutes away from a place in the Challenge Cup final.

Josh Thewlis claimed a hat-trick and emergency half-backs Riley Dean and Peter Mata'utia were inspirational as Warrington powered to a 32-10 victory over Huddersfield at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Dean and Mata'utia proved more than able deputies for injured pair George Williams and Gareth Widdop as they helped guide Warrington to only their second win in their last eight games.
