England Rugby League host successful DiSE residential camp

England Rugby League host successful DiSE residential camp

England Rugby League DiSE students recently enjoyed a week-long residential camp at Woodhouse Grove School in Bradford.

Second year students were in camp between 4 and 6 April while first year students linked up for a joint session on 6April before underdoing their camp until April 8.

The Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) is a national programme for years 12 and 13 girls who are deemed to have potential to represent England in the future and play Women’s Rugby League at the highest level.

Rugby League has 30 places per academic year for each new group of year 12 students. DiSE is a ‘dual career’ programme which combines education alongside high-level training delivered on a camp basis by the England Performance Unit.

Head of England Pathways for Female players, Stuart Barrow said: “The DiSE programme and this residential stay was designed to put players in a training camp environment with focus on several topics which will give them the best chance of becoming a future England Women senior player.

“Clearly there is a lot of focus on the Rugby League World Cup later this year, but the work on this programme will make sure we are building for the next in France in 2025 and further forward.”

The players took part in field and gym sessions throughout the residential whilst also having access to high-quality facilities including swimming pools for recovery.

Away from the field, both groups were given sessions on media training, psychology, nutrition, inclusion and diversity and tactical and technical Rugby League education.

Diploma in Sporting Excellence Manager, Conor Meese added: “The on-field sessions were really positive, and we have some fantastic talent available to us thanks to the DiSE programme.

“However, our sessions away from the field were just as important in preparing these players for the possibility of becoming an England Women international.

“The whole week was a fantastic team effort from England and Rugby Football League staff coupled with the addition of some industry professionals.”
