Betfred Super League Round 7 Round-Up

Betfred Super League Round 7 Round-Up

St Helens returned to the top of Betfred Super League with a 26-0 defeat over Leeds Rhinos.

Winger Tom Makinson scored two of five tries in the game with Konrad Hurrell, Lewis Dodd and Jonny Lomax getting the rest in a decisive victory that helped mark the 500th appearance of captain James Roby.

Saints are level on points at the top of the table with Wigan Warriors, who needed a late Harry Smith drop-goal to beat Hull FC 19-18.

Jai Field put the hosts in front early on before Adam Swift and Danny Houghton scored two quick tries to put Hull in front at half-time.

Wigan responded with a try from Ethan Havard but the visitors responded through Chris Satae put the visitors 18-12 up.

But Field scored his second and Smith's dramatic drop-goal sealed the points.

Huddersfield Giants leapfrogged Catalans into third with a 28-12 win over the Dragons, who had gone five games unbeaten.

After a delayed kick-off due to travel issues for the visitors, the Dragons initially took an early lead through a Samisoni Langi try but Huddersfield responded with two converted tries from Owen Trout and Danny Levi before Tom Davies added a second try for the visitors.

A Tui Lolohea penalty and a try from Theo Fages extended the Giants’ lead after the break and Joe Chan added a third for Dragons, but Josh Jones’ try and two goals from Lolohea were enough for the hosts.

Wakefield Trinity moved up to seventh after beating Salford Red Devils 30-24 to record a fourth consecutive win.

Despite two tries each from Salford’s Ken Sio and Rhys Williams, and one from Deon Cross, Jacob Miller, Tom Johnstone (2), Reece Lyne and Jay Pitts all touched down for Trinity, who also got five conversions from Max Jowitt.

Hull KR scored seven tries to beat Warrington Wolves 34-18.

Ryan Hall crossed twice for the Robins and there was a try each for Frankie Halton, Lachlan Coote, Jimmy Keinhorst, Mikey Lewis and Jez Litten.

Peter Mata’utia, George Williams and Josh Thewlis all scored for Warrington, but the Wolves fell to a fourth successive Super League defeat.

Toulouse remain rooted to the bottom of the table after losing 32-6 to Castleford.

Castleford picked up where they left off from a dominant 40-16 win against Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup to pick up their second Super League win of the season.

A converted Tony Gigot try was a consolation for the French side after Greg Eden, Niall Evalds, Adam Milner, Jake Mamo, Liam Watts all touched down for the hosts.
