Support for Tonga relief fund through mid-season international kit launch

Support for Tonga relief fund through mid-season international kit launch

England and the Combined Nations All Stars will wear unique, Tonga-inspired shirts for their mid-season international at Warrington on Saturday 18 June.

Rugby League supporters in England and around the world have rallied to support the Pacific nation following January’s devastating volcanic eruption and tsunami on the Tonga archipelago. Now, supporters can continue to raise funds for those affected by purchasing replica shirts which are on sale now.

£10 from each shirt sale will be donated to a tsunami relief fund. And the first 250 people who make a purchase of either shirt will receive two free tickets to the Halliwell Jones Stadium international, where England will seek to avenge last year’s defeat at the hands of the All Stars.

Carl Hall, All Stars team manager and Pacific Islands Rugby League Group chair, says: â€œLast year’s All Stars shirt was dedicated to the amazing Mose Masoe; this year we’re seeking inspiration from the people of Tonga as they rebuild their lives following the devastating tsunami. “Members of the Pacific Island players group – in particular Konrad Hurrell, Albert Vete, Mahe Fonua, Chris Satae and Kelepi Tanginoa – have all been involved with the design, which reflects the region’s cultural patterns.”

The All Stars fixture revives a Rugby League tradition which stretches back to the Other Nationalities team of the early 20th century, with the team made up of players from across the Rugby League world who are currently playing in the northern hemisphere. Both the England and Combined Nations All Stars shirts are produced by OXEN, the RFL’s technical kit supplier.

Lee Jenkinson, the CEO of Elite Pro Sports/OXEN, adds: “We are again honoured to be involved in a project which is close to the hearts of so many in Rugby League. The All Stars shirt looks fantastic and elements of the design are incorporated into the special England shirt too, which means that anybody buying either shirt will be supporting Tonga as the nation seeks to rebuild.”

Replica shirts can be pre-ordered online now for delivery by mid-May. Shirts are available in the following sizes.

  • Mens (Small-6XL): £49.99

  • Juniors (Ages 6-14): £39.99

  • Ladies (Sizes 8-18): £49.99

The first 250 fans who purchase either shirt will be notified of their success in receiving two free match tickets to the England double-header and their tickets will be posted out directly by the RFL in the coming weeks.

England versus the Combined Nations All Stars is part of a double-header which also sees England Women taking on France. Coaching the All Stars will be Rugby League legend Ellery Hanley MBE, who goes head-to-head with his former Wigan and Leeds team-mate – England Head Coach Shaun Wane.

Tickets for the men’s and women’s double-header at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium are available to buy now from only £20 Adults and £10 Under 16s at here.
