The draw for the Sixth Round of the Betfred Challenge Cup was made at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium tonight, with a West Yorkshire derby between Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers the stand-out tie and one of three all-Super League clashes.
Leeds defeated Castleford 23-10 at Wembley Stadium in 2014 and won the competition again in 2020, while the Tigers suffered another cup final defeat in 2021 at the hands of St Helens.
Cup-holders Saints will visit Betfred Championship Whitehaven for the first time since 2001, when they overcame spirited West Cumbrian resistance to triumph 34-22 en route to winning the Challenge Cup Final.
11 Betfred Super League teams went into the hat for the first time in this year’s competition, alongside the four winners of last weekend’s Round Five games, and Leigh Centurions, who recorded a win at Bradford on Premier Sports after the draw was made.
Championship high-flyers Featherstone Rovers face perhaps the sternest test of all – a trip to 2021 Super League Grand Finalists Catalans Dragons.
The draw in full:
- Barrow Raiders v Huddersfield Giants
- Catalans Dragons v Featherstone Rovers
- Hull KR v Leigh Centurions
- Leeds Rhinos v Castleford Tigers
- Sheffield Eagles v Hull FC
- Warrington Wolves v Wakefield Trinity
- Whitehaven v St Helens
- Wigan Warriors v Salford Red Devils
Sixth Round fixtures will be played on the weekend of 25-27 March. TV coverage will be confirmed as quickly as possible.
Round Six will be followed by Quarter Finals on 9 and 10 April, and the Semi Finals at Elland Road, Leeds, on Saturday 7 May – part of a Rugby League triple-header alongside the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final. Tickets are available online now from only £25 Adults and £12.50 Concessions/Under 16s.
