Tackle Shield Guidance
At the Annual safeguarding Conference in January, which was attended by Club Welfare Officers, questions were raised about the correct usage of tackle bags and shields. Coaches, volunteers or any adult should not hold a tackle shield for a child to tackle due to the risk of injury. However an adult may hold the top of a tackle bag.
This is also covered in the RFL Safeguarding Policy under section 4.2.2 and is an example of poor practice.
Please see the correct use of tackle bags and shields demonstrated in the infographics here.
