One of three Cumbrian outfits competing in the 2022 Betfred Championship, Workington Town come in on the back of a memorable promotion campaign which culminated in a Play-Off Final victory over Doncaster.
Town will compete in the Betfred Championship for the first time since 2016 and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Whitehaven who secured a second year in the Championship last year.
Workington’s pre-season campaign saw them edge out Whitehaven to lift the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy however they did suffer a 24-12 defeat to Barrow Raiders prior.
Chris Thorman has been in charge in West Cumbria since midway through the 2019 season and has established a strong side at Derwent Park which eventually led to promotion last season. Thorman had previously been interim boss at Huddersfield Giants on two occasions.

Rangy winger Alex Young first joined Workington at the start of the 2020 season and showed signs of promise before the season was curtailed amidst the Pandemic.
He re-signed for 2021 and proved a big hit in Cumbria as he featured regularly on either wing, chipping in with his fair share of tries and carries throughout and playing in the club's League One Play-Off Final win over Doncaster.
Young, whose younger brother is Newcastle Knights star Dom Young, enjoyed time in the academies of both Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants before heading to Northumbria University and playing for the university's acclaimed Rugby League team.
He will be playing in the Betfred Championship for the first time this year and keen to make his presence felt as Workington aim to impress after last year's promotion.
