York City Knights kicked the 2022 pre-season off with a comfortable 46-6 victory over newly rebranded Midlands Hurricanes on Friday evening at the LNER Community Stadium.
New recruits Liam Harris and Olly Butterworth both crossed for doubles for the Knights while Myles Harrison, Danny Kirmond, Kriss Brining and Masimba Matongo were also on the scoresheet. AJ Boardman scored the Midlands only try midway through the second half.
Halfback Harris opened the scoring after ten minutes before providing the try-assist for Harrison’s effort. Butterworth and Kirmond would both go over either side of Harris’ second giving James Ford’s side a 28-0 lead at the interval.
Butterworth notched his second of the evening after the break before the Hurricanes answered back via Boardman.
There were late tries for hooker Brining and off-season arrival Matongo to open the scoreline to 46-6.
