Halifax Panthers sign Matty Gee

Halifax Panthers have announced the signing of Matty Gee from Leigh Centurions ahead of the 2022 Betfred Championship season.

Gee spent has spent the past three seasons competing in the Betfred Super League with London Broncos, Hull Kingston Rovers and, most recently, Leigh Centurions. The second-rower was part of the Broncos side that memorably overcame Toronto Wolfpack in the 2018 Million Pound Game in Canada.

The Wigan-born forward’s career began with Salford Red Devils back in 2015 while the 26-year-old has also spent time on loan with North Wales Crusaders, Hunslet, Workington Town, London Skolars and Dewsbury Rams.

On the move, Gee commented: “I’m buzzing to have signed for Halifax. It’s a great club with great ambition and with the squad and coaches we’ve got and signings we’ve made, there’s no reason we can’t achieve something special this year.

Halifax Head Coach Simon Grix added: “Matty comes to us after a few years in Super League following a promotion with London, so comes with experience of what we would like to achieve in the not-too-distant future.

“I see him as an edge forward for us, but he is at home in the middle also. He carries well, running strong lines, challenging defences and has some whack about him in defence. He will prove to be a real asset for us.”

Gee joins Brad Knowles and Titus Gwaze as the Panthers continue to bolster their squad ahead of 2022.
