Registration opens for England Universities Regional Trials

Registration is now open for the England Universities Rugby League Regional Trials, with all players harbouring ambitions to play for England in 2022 invited and encouraged to register.

This year's programme will see England aim to reclaim their RFL President's Cup title against GB Police, GB Teachers and UK Armed Forces alongside travelling to Ireland in a bid to win a sixth consecutive Student Rugby League Four Nations championship. There will be an additional game versus the GB Prison Service as part of the preparatory phase of the programme.

"2022 is set to be another great year" said Adam Hughes, Education Lead at the RFL.

"The week in Ireland will be the highlight of the programme, giving players an opportunity to enjoy an overseas tour, but with some very competitive games lined up against other representative sides, the whole programme is set to test the players selected”.

The pathway to England starts with selection for the region in which a student is studying, with a round of inter-regional games. All three games will take place at the University of Birmingham on Saturday 27th November. Fixtures are as follows: 1pm - Midlands v South East

  • 3pm - North East v South West
  • 5pm - Yorkshire v North West

Following the inter-regional games, players are selected for their Origin side with Midlands, South East and South West aligning to the South, and North West, North East and Yorkshire aligning to the North. The University Origin Match takes place in early February.

Trials for the regional sides will take place at the end of October / start of November 2021 with exact details, plus details of each region's coaching staff, to be announced shortly.

All students who wish to trial need to register their interest by no later than Friday 22nd October. To register your interest please follow the link for your region, found below:
