Enthralling Women's Rugby League season set for climax

Enthralling Women's Rugby League season set for climax

The countdown is on to a mouthwatering Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final on Sunday October 10 as St Helens aim to complete a clean sweep of the season’s major trophies against the defending BWSL champions Leeds Rhinos at the Emerald Headingley Stadium.

But that isn’t the only big game coming up in Women’s Rugby League.

The Grand Final is the second match in a double header, following a clash between Featherstone Rovers and Huddersfield Giants to determine the winners of the first BWSL Shield – which has been contested by the teams who were placed sixth to 10th in the table when the season was paused in the summer.

That will be a special occasion for Andrea Dobson, a genuine legend of the women’s game who announced recently that this will be her last season.

Dobson’s Featherstone team-mates will be determined to send her off in style, but their opponents Huddersfield Giants will be aiming to end a highly encouraging debut season in the BWSL with a flourish – especially after coming from 20-6 behind to beat Warrington Wolves in the Shield Semi Finals at the weekend, in a match that went to Golden Point Extra Time.

Before the big day at Emerald Headingley, there’s another significant fixture this Sunday as Barrow Ladies take on Leigh Miners Rangers in the Championship Grand Final at Thatto Heath ARLFC - with live coverage on Our League - underlining the growing strength in depth of the Women’s game.

Hull KR have already been crowned League 1 champions, and Cardiff Demons beat The Army to win the first BWSL South competition.
