Tigers season ends with defeat

Tigers season ends with defeat

Daryl Powell's eight-year stint as Csstleford Tigers boss ended in defeat as their play-off hopes ended with a 40-26 home defeat at the hands of Warrington Wolves.

Warrington were 32-0 up with just over 50 minutes played before a Tigers fightback which ultimately proved fruitless.

The game, also a career farewell for captain Michael Shenton and Grant Millington, began in the worst possible way for the home side as a packed Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Matty Ashton and Castleford-bound Jake Mamo both scored twice before the half hour mark as the away side got on top, Stefan Ratchford kicking the first of his seven goals on the night for a firm advantage.

Ashton then completed his hat-trick on 44 minutes to put the visitors 32-0 up.

Though the home side enjoyed a. remarkable. ten-minute stint which saw them score four converted tries; through Warrington-bound Peter Mata'utia (2), Jordan Turner and Grant Millington, Danny Richardson kicking all four goals, it wasn't enough.

Warrington would overcome the sin-binning of Josh Charnley and sending off of Mike Cooper to hold on to their 32-24 advantage, eventually extending their lead through a Ratchford penalty goal and a late score by Connor Wrench, which was improved by Gareth Widdop late on.
