Leeds Rhinos made it four wins on the bounce in the Betfred Super League whilst ending Warrington Wolves’ six-game winning run with a hard-fought 16-22 victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Rob Lui opened the scoring for Leeds climbing highest for a kick and outpowering the Wolves’ defenders to go over. However, Warrington soon hit back through Danny Walker with Stefan Ratchford’s conversion levelling the scores.
But Leeds would enjoy the better of proceedings leading into half-time. Ash Handley was pivotal making a break down the flank before finding Alex Mellor in support before the England winger then danced his way through the Warrington defence to add his own name to the scoresheet.
Rhyse Martin notched a penalty goal before half-time to give the visitors a 6-20 lead. The Papua New Guinea international was on hand with the boot after the interval too furthering the lead once more.
With ten minutes remaining, Liam Sutcliffe was sent to the sin-bin and Warrington immediately took advantage through Josh Charnley.
As the the final hooter approached, Leeds halfback Lui followed Sutcliffe to the sin-bin and Charnley grabbed his second of the game following a near cross-field kick from Blake Austin.
Despite their best-efforts Warrington couldn’t find the try to level the scores and Leeds earned their fourth consecutive victory.
