Hat-trick for Moon as Leeds Rhinos beat London

Joel Moon scored a quick-fire hat-trick as Leeds Rhinos continued their winning start to the Super 8s Qualifiers with a 48-32 win against London Broncos.

Rhinos romped into a 48-10 lead with 16 minutes left but the Broncos hit back with four late tries.

Moon started the scoring in the third minute and quickly added a second try two minutes later, before completing his first Betfred Super League hat-trick after just 14 minutes.

Kieran Dixon's try helped London pull the deficit back to 16-6 but Luke Briscoe and Brett Ferres crossed as Leeds led by 22 at half-time.

Rhys Williams scored the first try of the second half, but Leeds responded with efforts from Carl Ablett and Ashton Golding (2), while Liam Sutcliffe took his points tally to 16.

But London ended the game on top, with tries from Daniel Hindmarsh, Ben Evans, Williams and Ben Hellewell being added to by three more Jarrod Sammut goals.

Leeds director of rugby Kevin Sinfield said: “I think for us it was a nice reminder that we’ve come a long way in a short space of time but we’ve still got a lot of work to do.

“I was really pleased with the first half, I thought that we did a really professional job and then I was a little bit disappointed with some of the way we played in the second period.

“You’ve got to give credit to London because I think they had a real go and it was always going to be a tricky fixture for us."

London Broncos head coach Danny Ward said: “The damage was done in the first half.

“We had a crack in the last 25 minutes and it was really pleasing that we were able to take some positives out of it.

“Points difference could be crucial at the end of this and if you’d offered me a win and one defeat from the first two games against Super League opposition I would have taken it.”
