The Betfred Championship Summer Bash once again provided high impact and exhilarating entertainment with seven matches at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool for a fourth consecutive year.

The weekend kicked off with the first ever Women’s Super League game to be played at the Summer Bash as Featherstone Rovers Ladies took on Bradford Bulls Women with Bradford collecting a 46-22 win against the Rovers.

Barrow Raiders v Sheffield Eagles started the Championship feast over the two days. The Eagles winning 38-22 which included a hat-trick for Cory Aston.

The West Yorkshire derby between Halifax RLFC and Featherstone Rovers proved to be quite the encounter with Halifax coming back to win 24-18 after trailing 18-14.

The highly anticipated clash between Toronto Wolfpack and Leigh Centurions illuminated Bloomfield Road with a gripping game that had fans on the edge of their seat until the final hooter.

The Centurions led 22-12 with twenty minutes to go but the Wolfpack on their Summer Bash debut were determined it was their night, winning 28-26 after Leigh failed to convert a penalty on the 80thminute.

11,805 Rugby League supporters were captivated by seven great contests that highlighted the talent and entertainment that the Betfred Championship and Women’s Super League have to offer.

Sunday saw a close victory for Toulouse Olympique XIII over London Broncos as they won 40-28 in another nail biting game to start the second day of the Betfred Championship Summer Bash.

Swinton Lions beat rivals Rochdale Hornets convincingly with a 38-12 win. In the final game of the weekend Dewsbury Rams edged out local rivals, Batley Bulldogs in a close fought game with a late Paul Sykes penalty to take the win.

Rugby Football League interim CEO, Ralph Rimmer said: “The 2018 Summer Bash once again showed how entertaining and captivating the Betfred Championship is. We saw some fantastic Rugby League over the weekend and it was brilliant that history was made with the first ever Women’s Super League game at the Summer Bash.

“All the games on show at Bloomfield Road this weekend are sure to get fans excited about the upcoming Super 8s The Qualifiers and Championship Shield which are certain to provide further entertainment to the 2018 season.”
