Hull KR sign Carney

Hull Kingston Rovers have further strengthened the first team squad ahead of the club’s push for promotion by signing explosive winger Justin Carney, subject to receiving the necessary visa clearance.

The powerful outside back joins the Robins with immediate effect from Salford Red Devils and will make the move to KCOM Craven Park on a contract until the end of the 2018 season.

28-year-old Carney had spells with Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters in the NRL before making a big impact in Super League with Castleford Tigers, where he averaged better than a try per game with 72 tries in 67 appearances.

As well as being a proven try-scorer, the 15-stone winger is renowned for his abilities as a strong ball carrier able to get his team on the front foot and will add another option along with considerable competition for places in Tim Sheens’ squad as Rovers look to secure a Super League return in the Qualifiers later this season.
