Year 7 Boys - Castleford Academy (Wakefield) 12-6 St Peter's (Wigan)

Castleford Academy edged out St Peter's 12-6 in the Steven Mullaney Memorial Game at Wembley on Saturday.

There weren't many points scored in the traditional Challenge Cup curtain-raiser, but there was plenty of entertainment on show for the fans arriving early.

St Peter's took the lead when Tom Lee powered his way through two tackles to open the scoring.

Lee converted his own try to make it 6-0 and they continued to press but couldn't convert pressure into points.

Instead it was Castleford who, having soaked up the pressure, hit back with a wonderful try.

Captain Ryley Brown picked up the ball and ran at the line before a wonderful step enabled him to round the St Peter's full back and go over beneath the posts.

Mason Hare, celebrating his 12th birthday, converted to level the scores and they went in half time all square.

St Peter's started the second half in determined fashion but, as the game went on, Castleford began to grow in confidence.

There was little to choose between the sides and it took a superb try to break the deadlock and win it.

Second rower Ben Dean's pinpoint kick into the corner gave Daniel Gale the easy job of collecting the ball and go over unchallenged to score.

Hare landed the difficult touchline conversion to win it for the Yorkshire school.

Year 7 Girls Final - St Peter's (Manchester) 28 - 24 St John Fisher (Dewsbury) (after golden point extra time)

Kicking off Friday's action at Richmond Athletic Association, St Peter's won a dramatic Year 7 Girls final, with golden point required to decide the winner.

Faye Richardson was the hero for St Peter's, as she completed her hat-trick in extra time to seal the victory.

The game hung in the balance througout, with neither side ever more than six points in front.

Captain Ruby Enright and Courtney Gooch scored first-half tries for St John Fisher, who were led in the pack by Mia Diskin, daughter of former Leeds Rhinos hooker Matt.

But those efforts were matched by Oyinkan Dare – she crossed twice for St Peter's to make it 12-12 at half-time.

Richardson thought she had won it in normal time for St Peter's with two wonderful solo tries, but Enright and Gooch both scored their second tries, and with each side having a 100 per cent conversion rate, the game finished 24-24 after normal time.

Player of the Match Richardson completed her hat-trick with another blistering run to cap a marvellous and match-winning performance.

Wakefield-based Outwood Grange squeezed past St Peter's with a late try from Aome Stanley to seal victory in a thrilling Year 8 Girls final.

Outwood stormed into a 12-0 lead with early tries from Stanley and Jessica Woods, but St Peter's hit back when Ketsia Efokolo showed great pace to score back-to-back tries.

Crucially, Efokolo missed one of the conversions, leaving her side trailing 12-10 at half-time.

Jessica Woods increased Outwood's lead early in the second half as she reached over the line to score with Stanley converting to make it 18-10.

St Peter's responded and Joyce Vangu put them back in the game with a well-taken try and then Efoloko completed her hat-trick with another great solo effort – this time she converted to give St Peter's the lead.

In a dramatic end to a fantastic Year 8 Boys final, Wade Deacon avenged their Wembley defeat of last year, beating Glantaf 16-14.

In a rematch of the 2015 Year 7 Boys final, the first half ebbed and flowed with Wade Deacon hitting the front three times through tries from Alex Sutton and a brace from centre William Gilhooley.

The sides went in at half time only six points apart at 16-10 as Glantaf posted points themselves through the towering Cai Marcus-Jemmett's double, which included an 80-metre solo effort.

The second half was a tight affair as Wade Deacon looked to defend their slender lead, but their resistance was finally broken when Louis Shugar jumped from dummy half to break the line and outpace the full-back to score.

Jac Lloyd's unsuccessful conversion meant Wade Deacon still led heading into the final minutes.

St Peter's took the lead thanks to a magnificent try from Umyla Hanley.

His jinking run broke through the Castleford line before he touched down underneath the posts.

The simple conversion put them 6-0 ahead but these would be the only points they would post thanks to a resolute Castleford defence.

The Yorkshire outfit slowly started to get on top and they closed the gap to two points when Jake McDonald pouncing on a grubber kick to score.

Castleford took the lead before half-time with Tyler Robson-Tennant powering his way over from close range. Bailey O'Connor missed both kicks to leave the score at 8-6 at the interval.

The second half was a similar affair with Castleford's confidence growing and they extended their lead when Harrison Spence-Horton touched down another grubber kick.

It was Player of the Match Reynolds who opened the scoring with two excellent touchdowns, as Abbie-Leigh Lindsey converted both in a flawless kicking display.

Deanery looked to hit back and got their first points on the board soon through Megan Grace-Holding - Jess Hilton converted to reduce the arrears to six points.

Reynolds then completed her hat-trick and Beth Johnson also scored from dummy half to give Castleford a 24-6 half-time lead.

Any hopes of a Deanery comeback were shattered early in the second half; Hollie-Mae Dodd scored two quick tries to give her side an unassailable lead and further tries from Rhea Cartwright, Jade Cowell and a fourth for the impressive Reynolds capped off a remarkable performance from the Yorkshire outfit.

Year 10 Boys Final - Brooksbank (Calderdale) 10-11 Castleford Academy (Wakefield)

Castleford Academy edged out Brooksbank in an enthralling Year 10 Boys final, the last game of the day.

Castleford Tigers Academy player Ritchie Westwood was the hero after he landed a late drop goal to cap of a stunning game of Rugby League.

In a hugely competitive contest, Castleford opened the scoring with Westwood going over on the right edge.

Lucas Sutton missed the difficult conversion to leave the score at 4-0.

Both sides saw players sin binned as ill-discipline crept in, but while both teams were down to 12 players, they traded scores.

Firstly, Corey Johnson forced his way over and this time Sutton converted to stretch the lead to 10 points.

But, just before half-time, Brooksbank hit back when Amir Bourouh cut back inside to score - Warrington Wolves youngster Riley Dean converted to make it 10-6 at half-time.

In the second half, Luka Orlic finished off a sweeping passing move in the right corner to level for Brooksbank, but the conversion was missed to leave the game in the balance.
