Halifax star Jack Brown scored ten tries as the 2016 Wheelchair Rugby League season kicked off with defending champions Halifax picking up a comfortable 76-44 win against Leeds Rhinos.

Fax flew out of the traps early on, as England internationals Brown and Nathan Holmes both stormed in for three tries each to hand the visitors a 32-point lead.

Leeds managed two tries through James Simpson and Jodie Boyd-Ward, but another Brown try saw Halifax take a 44-8 lead into half time.

The Rhinos, coached by Martyn Gill, did improve in the second half and they hit back with three unanswered tries through from Boyd-Ward, James Simpson and Josh Butler as they closed the gap to 16 points.

But Halifax showed their class in the closing stages, Brown adding six more tries to see Halifax close out the win.

Leeds Rhinos: Josh Butler, James Simpson, Jodie Boyd-Ward, Tom Haliwell, Ryan Richardson.

Halifax: Jack Brown, Stewart Walker, Nathan Holmes, Nathan Mulihall, Coral Batey.

Elsewhere, Leeds Rhinos A secured an impressive 36-24 win against Halifax A as the North Development League also started over the Easter weekend.

After a tight start to the game, a Robert Hawkins brace saw Halifax A notch the first two tries of the tie, before Leeds mounted a comeback and took the lead as Ewan Cibbens broke through twice to give the Rhinos a two-point advantage.

But Halifax finished the first half in front, as tries from Coral Batey and Danny Cutts helped put them eight points up at the break.

However, Leeds took the spoils courtesy of a superb second-half performance as Cibbens scored two more tries, taking his tally to four tries for the game.

A final try for Luis Domingos saw the Rhinos score 18 points in a dominant period of the game, meaing Joseph Bachelor's late score wasn't enough for Halifax to close the gap.

Leeds Rhinos A: Joshua Butler, Ewan Cibbens, Luis Domingos, Neil Harper, Jim Dyson.

Halifax A: Coral Batey, Gavin Dobson, Annabelle Hawkins, Robert Hawkins, Danny Cutts, Nathan Mulihall, Joseph Bachelor, Andy Atkinson.
