CHAMPION SCHOOLS FINAL GIRLS YEAR 7

This tough uncompromising contest went down to the wire and both sides scoring five tries, conversions were to prove crucial.
A tight first half saw St Peter’s open the scoring following a strong run from Mary David-Ogundele with Lwkeny Mario converting. Castleford hit back immediately with Hollie Dodd touching down and Keara Bennett added the conversion.
David-Ogundele powered over for her second with Mario adding the extras to give her side the lead once again but by half-time Castleford were ahead. Niamh Coultas and Bennett both touched down, the latter courtesy of a neat dummy and Bennett’s conversions gave her side a 18-12 lead.
Bennett was again on target early in the second half after Dodd had forced her way over but St Peter’s cut the deficit following a fine solo effort from Paris Nicholson, Mario making it 24-18 with the conversion.
Dodd then completed her hat-trick, with Bennett’s conversion stretching the lead to 12 points before David-Ogundele completed her hat-trick. A try and conversion by Bennett put Castleford 14 points ahead and although Joyce Vangu reduced the arrears with a terrific solo touchdown and David-Ogundell’s fourth try, converted by Mario, brought them to within four points, it wasn’t quite enough.
Mary David-Ogundele was named player of the match.
