St Johns see off Cwm Rhymni to win Year 9 Festival

Thursday the 26th of November saw 5 teams descend upon St John’s for a great afternoon of rugby league with Cwm Rhymni, Ferndale, Aberdare and 2 sides from St John’s all playing.
In a single pool of 5 teams, everyone played each other with both Cwm Rhymni and St John’s undefeated going into the final game against each other, the winner would see the team progress into the next round.
Scores going into the final round were:
Cwm Rhymni – 3 wins, 0 losses
St John’s T – 3 wins, 0 losses
Aberdare – 2 wins, 2 losses
St John’s S – 1 win, 3 losses
Ferndale – 0 wins, 4 losses
In the final game it was all about defence, only one try was to be the decisive winner and it came courtesy of St John’s flying centre Lewis Gough, latching onto a great pass and galloping down the left wing to cross, outpacing 3 would be tacklers.
Final score was:
St John’s 4 – 0 Cwm Rhymni
5 players from the final game have also been put forward to train with the Under 14s East Origin side to play against West Wales in a 3 game series, they are:
