New Cardiff club to launch with Scorpions friendly
Cardiff City Rugby League Club will launch by taking on Championship 1 side South Wales Scorpions on Wednesday 11th February at Cardiff Arms Park (kick-off 8pm).
In partnership with Cardiff’s official charity Mothers’ Union, fans will be treated to a night of hard hitting fun packed entertainment as the blue of Cardiff City Rugby League Club, the result of a recent merger between Cardiff Demons and Cardiff Spartans, take on the pink and black of South Wales Scorpions.
With no less than five former Scorpions in the Cardiff side, it is sure to be a feisty encounter.
Cardiff City Rugby League coach and Wales international second row forward Phil Carleton said: “This match will be a great opportunity for Wales to showcase Rugby League in the capital city.
“Playing at the Arms Park makes any occasion special but the fact that Cardiff City Rugby League are playing their first game against South Wales’ only semi-professional side makes it all more interesting.
“I know that Mike Grady and Paul Emanuelli will be keen to look at the new Scorpions players in a competitive game whilst also trying out some new ideas. The odds are stacked against us, but you can be sure the Cardiff City Rugby League boys will be fired up and keen to start with a win.
“I know both clubs are hoping to get a good crowd and we want to put on a good show, so whether you are new to rugby league, a fan or just want to do something different with your Wednesday evening we would love to see you at the Arms Park on 11th February.”
Scorpions Coach Mike Grady added, "We’re really looking forward to the game against Cardiff City Rugby League. It's going to be a good, tough game as both sides will be looking to impress.
“The League One Cup competition kicks off two weeks later, so this game will let us have a look at what we going to go with for that game.”
“I would also like to wish Cardiff City RL all the best for the start of their Rugby League journey, it's great to rugby league alive and well in the capital and I will be watching their Welsh Conference results with a keen interest and hope to get to a few games too.
“For me this game is great opportunity to prepare the lads before what is sure to be a challenging but hopefully rewarding season.”
Gates open at 7:45pm, however the bar will be open before. The Cardiff City Rugby League club are inviting fans to wear blue or get Cardiff City Rugby League merchandise from www.cardiffrugbyleague.com. Prizes will be awarded for the best effort.
