Womens Round Up

This weekend saw the first round of the Womens Challenge Cup.

First up, Rochdale Hornets were at home to Oulton Raidettes and in a superbly entertaining game it was Oulton who progressed to the next round with an 18-8 victory.

It was a scintillating game at Normanton Knights as they welcomed Featherstone and in a battle royale it was the home side who emerged victors by a nail biting margin 22-20.

Lindsay Anfield scored two of Normanton’s match winning tries and Kirsty Nicholson and Jodie Wilkinson scored one each, Katie Hepworth landed three successful goals.

Featherstone battled throughout, there were tries for Katie Cooper-Birkenhead, Steph Grenham, Rebecca Ley and Grace Field. Natalie Gilmour converted one try and Cooper-Birkenhead got two successful drop goals but it was not quite enough and Normanton took the spoils.

West Craven Warriors were at home to the Army RL Ladies and it was the visitors who proved too strong for the hosts as they ran away 76-4 winners.

In another high scoring affair Fryston Warriors were at home to Hunslet Hawks and this time it was the home side who dominated proceedings to earn a 70-6 win.

Hayley Fielding topped the try scoring charts for Fryston with five to her name, following closely behind was Nat Carr who crossed for four tries.

Jodie Davies, Larisa Deaves and Lucy Eastwood all scored once. Victoria Berry landed three goals and Kirsty Duffield was on target with four. Hunslet never let their heads drop and got on the score sheet with a try for Sarah Morris which Jacqueline Sedgwick successful converted the try.

Bradford Thunderbirds were at home to Stanningley and it was the home side who proved too strong for Stanningley earning a 48-6 win and progression into the next round.

Danielle Bose and Rhiannon Marshall both crossed for two tries each and there was one for Charlotte Booth, Kirsty Moroney, Debbie Smith and Manila Spurr.

Marhsall converted five tries and Moroney kicked three.

Stanningley crossed for a deserved try through Sarah Dunn which was converted by Jodie Litherland.
