After announcing the appointment of Martin Beddis as their Head Coach, the 2021 Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup newcomers Norway are now stepping up their recruitment drive.
Training camps in Norway are planned for the Scandinavian summer, provided Covid-19 permits, which will give domestic players the chance to press for a place in the squad.
But Jonatan Dam, the physiotherapy student who took over as President of the Norway Rugby League last November, is keen to spread the net more widely – and has appealed to anyone with Norwegian heritage to get in touch.
“We have seen the impact that can be made by a heritage player with more experience of Rugby League for a developing nation such as Norway,” said Dam.
“This is such an exciting opportunity for us to establish ourselves in Wheelchair Rugby League, and we want to make sure Norwegians across the world have the chance to get involved.”
Beddis was appointed as head coach this week. The 48-year-old is based in Runcorn and plays for Warrington Wolves in the Wheelchair RL, and is head coach for the Runcorn Ravens Wheelchair Sports Club.
Norway have been drawn in the same group as England, meaning they will play three matches at the Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park – against fellow newcomers Spain on November 11 before they face the daunting double of England and Australia - Rugby League World Cup 2021.
