Lights, camera, action! Community Rugby League in the spotlight in 2021

Community Rugby League is set to benefit from an extended contract between the RFL and Hull-based multi-media company GRM SPORT.

The partners have agreed a one-year extension to an existing deal which has seen the community game reach more than one million people on GRM SPORT’s digital platforms.

Founded in 2017 by Londoner Shawn Boatin, GRM SPORT is a multi-media online platform created to showcase grassroots sporting talent. The RFL engaged the Hull-based business in 2019 and since then GRM SPORT has taken Rugby League’s community game to new audiences via its YouTube channel.

Tom Brindle, RFL Head of Growth, says: “We’re really pleased to continue our partnership with Shawn and his team for 2021. They are talented people who work with community clubs and players to showcase the very best of Rugby League, and when the community game returns this kind of exposure is going to be critical.

“We are building a legacy for the community game beyond 2021 and through our partnership with GRM SPORT we will tell a compelling story – the story of community Rugby League’s re-emergence from the shadow of the pandemic, and of the individuals, teams, clubs and communities who will play leading roles.”

GRM SPORT’s Shawn Boatin adds: â€œEach season our platform reaches over one million people. The Rugby Football League has provided us with amazing support and resources over the last two years, which have contributed massively to our platform’s success.

“Since partnering with the RFL we have continued to surpass targets, engage with clubs from far and wide, and showcase the very best of grassroots Rugby League. As we enter a World Cup year the spotlight will span from the foundations to the elite levels of our sport, and all of us at GRM SPORT are excited by the prospect of playing our part.”

GRM SPORT’s YouTube channel was launched in 2018, and its community Rugby League videos have since attracted 1.7million views.
