Castleford lift League Leaders' Shield

Tigers maintain winning record in Betfred Women's Super League

Castleford Tigers had a terrific – and so far, perfect - league season rewarded last night as they lifted the Betfred Women’s Super League League Leaders’ Shield following a 44-0 victory over York City Knights, in front of over 1300 spectators.

The victory means that Castleford have now won all 13 of their Betfred Women’s Super League fixtures in 2019 and head into the final weekend looking to complete a perfect league season. However, they face potentially their toughest test of the season as they travel to 2nd placed St Helens on Sunday 29 September.

Rhiannion Marshall was the star of the show as she crossed for a hat-trick in the final 20 minutes at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle. Tara-Jane Stanley and Lacey Owen notched braces while there were also tries for Millie Walsh and Tamzin Renouf who rounded off a fantastic evening for the Tigers.

The final standings mean that Castleford will host Wigan Warriors in the play-off semi-finals while St Helens will welcome the visit of Coral Challenge Cup winners Leeds Rhinos.

The Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final will take place on Friday 11 October and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
