The Rugby Football League are supporting UK Anti-Doping’s third Clean Sport Week in 2019.
Karen Moorhouse, the RFL’s Chief Regulatory Officer, says: “This year’s Clean Sport Week campaign from UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) is supported by a range of National Governing Bodies including the Rugby Football League, as well as sports organisations and UK sports stars.
“We join UKAD in celebrating clean athletes and their success across sports, and in promoting the work of the anti-doping community in the fight for clean sport. It matters to all of us who love sport.
“Across rugby league we can celebrate the fact that the vast majority of players play one of the toughest sports in the world and they play hard, and they play clean.
“On behalf of the sport, the RFL works closely with UKAD, leagues and clubs to deliver a comprehensive testing programme; and we work equally hard with colleagues across the sport on player education and welfare. Sport is built on fair competition - this, and player health, safety and wellbeing are our utmost priorities.
“We welcome the fact that this year’s campaign has a focus on Image and Performance Enhancing Drugs (IPEDs), and emerging developments around the use of IPEDs in the gym environment. We look forward to UKAD’s new research in this area. It is important to reflect that no sport is immune from this and other issues.
“This week will see a number of awareness-raising activities across sports, and it provides an important opportunity to continue to share learning and best practice to deter use within rugby league.
“The year-round education of players, coaches and clubs is vital to the integrity of competition at all levels, and the wellbeing and protection of players.”
