Gender Participation

Following the publication of the Sports Councils Equality Group (SCEG) Guidance for Domestic Competition in September 2021, the Rugby Football League (RFL) reviewed its Gender Participation Policy following a period of consultation to ensure that it reflects the safety needs of the sport, where necessary and based on the peer-reviewed research currently available. This included changes to the eligibility criteria for full-contact Rugby League that affected transgender players and those who are undergoing hormone therapy.

The RFL remains committed to ensuring that Rugby League is an inclusive sport in which everyone can be actively involved. The Policy and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) can be found on this page. These FAQs have been designed to assist those who may have questions or concerns about how the policy impacts them. For any further questions on the policy or how you can get involved in Rugby League, please email Ben.Abberstein@rfl.co.uk
