11th March 2021, 21:16 | pre-season
York City Knights first game at their new home of the LNER Community Stadium ended in 22-28 defeat to Hull FC with both sides impressing in their first outing of 2021, in front of the Our League cameras.
The honour of the first try at York’s new home went to Hull FC winger Adam Swift who managed to finish well in the corner following a lovely pass from Josh Griffin with the centre offloading the ball between his own legs.
Hull furthered their lead as Mahe Fonua latched onto a low Jake Connor kick before Carlos Tuimavave found his way over midway through the first half.
The Knights eventually found themselves on the scoresheet as a looping pass found winger Kieran Dixon whose kick inside found Matty Marsh who in turn offloaded to an onrushing Riley Dean – on loan from Warrington Wolves – to notch York’s first try.
Manu Ma’u powered his way over on the stroke of half-time to give Brett Hodgson’s side a 6-22 lead at the interval.
On the hour-mark, Chris Satae barged his way over from close-range and Hull FC looked on their way to a comfortable victory. However, York wouldn’t go down without a fight in their first fixture at the LNER Community Stadium.
Ben Jones-Bishop – who joined York from Wakefield Trinity in the off-season – managed to cut through Hull’s defensive line to begin a York fightback.
Liam Salter would then take advantage a ricochet to score with ten minutes remaining before Tyme Nikau was quickest to react to Brendan O’Hagan’s low kick and pull York within six points of the visitors.
James Ford’s men look to have snatched a draw as Jack Teanby scored with two minutes remaining but was adjudged to be offside from the kick.
