Five Pre-Season Friendlies set for Our League

Five Pre-Season Friendlies set for Our League

Tommy Makinson's Testimonial live on Saturday evening

England Rugby League winger Tommy Makinson will celebrate his Testimonial Fixture this weekend as St Helens face Leigh Centurions on Saturday evening, 6pm, live on Our League.

Makinson – who made his debut for St Helens back in 2011 – has enjoyed ten seasons in the Betfred Super League winning the Grand Final on three separate occasions, with the most recent coming in dramatic fashion at the KCOM Stadium last year.

St Helens’ four new acquisitions for the 2021 season – Joel Thompson, Sione Mata’utia, Agnatius Paasi and Dan Norman – are all included in Kristian Woolf’s squad. However, Lachlan Coote will miss out.

As for Leigh, they continue their preparations for a return to the Betfred Super League this season having brought in a total of 12 new players. The Centurions earned their first victory of the 2017 Super League season – their most recent spell in the top-flight – against St Helens.

Last year’s Super League runners-up Wigan Warriors will face Salford Red Devils as part of a double-header on Sunday afternoon, 4pm kick-off.

England back-rower John Bateman could don the Wigan jersey for the first time since 2018, but fellow new signing Jai Field misses out due to a minor back strain.

Richard Marshall will take charge of his first fixture for the Red Devils and former Wigan players Morgan Escare and Jack Wells could feature against their former side. Joe Burgess misses out due to injury.

Sunday’s action kicks off with an all-Yorkshire affair as Ian Watson leads his Huddersfield Giants for the first time against Leeds Rhinos at 2pm, live on Our League.

The Rhinos could have Zane Tetevano, King Vuniyayawa and Kyle Eastmond – who returned to Rugby League last week – available to them while Jack Cogger, Ricky Leutele, Josh Jones, Jack Ashworth and Olly Ashall-Bott could debut for Huddersfield.

The weekend’s pre-season schedule begins on Saturday at 2pm as Bradford Bulls host Keighley Cougars in the Joe Phillips Memorial Trophy fixture.

Bradford were one of six Betfred Championship sides who were in action last weekend falling to a 22-26 defeat against Swinton Lions at the Tetley’s Stadium. Keighley will be looking for a victory in the local derby as they build towards their Betfred Challenge Cup Round One fixture against London Broncos.

Halifax Panthers – fresh from their off-season rebrand – return to action against Oldham at 4pm on Saturday. The Panthers went against Huddersfield in a training session last weekend while the Roughyeds are set for their first outing in over 12 months.

All five fixtures are available to watch on Our League and gameday passes can be purchased here.
