Halifax Panthers have announced the signing of Nick Rawsthorne on a one-year deal from Hull Kingston Rovers.

Rawsthorne began his career at Halifax in 2016 scoring four tries in seven first team appearances before signing for Betfred Super League side Hull FC.

The back who can play on the wing or at centre enjoyed two seasons with Toronto Wolfpack before joining Hull Kingston Rovers for the 2020 Betfred Super League season.

On the move, Rawsthorne said: “Absolutely buzzing to be back at Halifax, it’s my hometown club and where it all started properly for me.

“We’ve got a really exciting squad for this season and I can’t wait to get stuck in.

“Thanks to everybody involved for getting me back here.”

Halifax Head Coach, Simon Grix, added: “I have side previously we are looking for new recruits and waiting patiently for the right ones. Shaun [Robinson] hanging up his boots moved us along a little quicker and we are really happy to welcome Nick back to his hometown club.

“Nick left us as we couldn’t provide the full-time environment, he wished to test himself in. He comes back with a point to prove and an opportunity to kick start his career after a tough 18 months.

“He displayed his undoubted potential in his first sting and has learnt plenty in some good environments over the last few years. He returns with more experience and adds to the competition in our back line.”

Panthers Football Director, Ian Croad, commented: “I remember meeting a young Nick in 2016 with his Grandad, after Martin Gonzales convinced him back to the game. Truth is we always felt like ‘the one that got away’ when he left. I know Nick will do justice to the shirt, I’m really looking forward to seeing him play.”
