Elliot Whitehead was on the scoresheet on Sunday as Canberra Raiders earned their third consecutive victory meaning they trail NRL leaders Melbourne Storm by just two points.
Elliot Whitehead managed to pounce on a clever low kick from England and Canberra teammate Josh Hodgson after 31 minutes to help the Raiders take control against Parramatta. In addition to his first half assist, Josh Hodgson also made more tackles than any other Canberra player with 48 and put in six kicks from acting halfback in the Raiders’ 19-0 win.
John Bateman again completed a full eighty minutes for Canberra racking up 121 run metres with 52 post-match metres; more than any other Raider. Bateman also made 27 tackles, seven tackle breaks and produced one successful offload.
Finally, Ryan Sutton featured once more for the Raiders and made 31 tackles in an impressive 45-minute showing at loose-forward. Sutton totalled 118 metres with 30 of those coming post-contact.
South Sydney Rabbitohs also made it four wins from five games in the 2019 NRL season with the help of Sam, Tom and George Burgess.
Tom Burgess was the biggest metre-maker of the three brothers this weekend as he racked up an impressive 127 metres; the second highest of any South Sydney player. Sam Burgess was solid in defence making 33 tackles including a big hit on New Zealand Warriors winger David Fusitu’a. George Burgess made 16 tackles in his 24-minute spell.
James Graham’s St George Illawarra Dragons made it three from three in Round Five for the England contingent Down Under. The prop-forward made 133 metres from 13 carries while also making 31 defensive efforts in their 40-4 hammering of Canterbury Bankstown-Bulldogs.
The Burgess brothers are first up next week as they travel to basement club Canterbury on Friday. James Graham’s St George face Manly Sea Eagles on Saturday while the Canberra quartet are back in action on Sunday as they host Brisbane Broncos.
