Hunslet will fulfil a pledge made a year ago by staging a ‘Run for Rob’ event in the first month of the 2021 Betfred League 1 campaign.
The Parksiders had originally aimed to support Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow who is fighting Motor Neurone Disease in April 2020 with a 10km run from their South Leeds Stadium to Leeds’ Emerald Headingley Stadium, however restrictions following the covid-19 pandemic halted plans.
Following the release of the 2021 Betfred League 1 fixtures, Hunslet have confirmed new plans to sit alongside their trip to Keighley Cougars on Sunday 30 May.
Hunslet Director Phil Hodgson said: “We are organising a run/walk to the game, with the help of South Leeds Lakers Running Club.
“There are 15 weeks to get yourself in shape so it’s time to get off the sofa and get into training.
“Rob is inspiring us all with his resilience and determination, it’s our time to follow his lead.”
Hunslet offered support to the Rob Burrow Fund and the Sheffield Institute of Translational Neuroscience (SITRaN) at last January’s Harry Jepson OBE fixture against Leeds Rhinos.
SITRaN is close to the heart of former Hunslet player Stuart Keane, who has been instrumental in raising many millions for the charity after losing his son, Shaun, to the disease.
