Toulouse Olympique have confirmed the signing of two-time Betfred Super League winner Mitch Garbutt from Hull Kingston Rovers for the 2021 season.
Garbutt debuted in the NRL with Melbourne Storm in 2013 before a brief spell with Brisbane Broncos. The prop-forward would make the move to Super League in 2015 to join Leeds Rhinos.
During his time with Leeds, Garbutt would play part in their historic 2015 treble-winning season lifting the Super League, League Leaders’ Shield and Challenge Cup. The Australian would claim another Super League title in 2017.
The 31-year-old joined Hull Kingston Rovers ahead of the 2019 season, scoring five tries in his 25 appearances for the club. Garbutt was on the scoresheet on his Robins debut against local rivals Hull FC.
Garbutt said: “I am very honoured to have the opportunity to join Toulouse Olympique. I only come with one goal and that is to help the club move up to Super League.
“After speaking with Sylvain [Houles], the decision was very easy to take, and I can’t wait to play in blue and white in a very spectacular rugby style.”
Toulouse Olympique President, Bernard Sarrazain, said: “To get into Super League, we need players who have experiences of big games and this is the case with Mitch.
“In addition, with his devastating charges, I am convinced that he will be very popular with our supporters.”
Garbutt’s signing comes after a number of contract extensions at Toulouse including star full-back Mark Kheirallah, Patrick Vaivai, Joe Bretherton, Lloyd White and Junior Vaivai.
