York and Featherstone set for 'virtual' clash

York and Featherstone set for 'virtual' clash

Fans can buy virtual food and drink as they would on a regular match day.

York City Knights will take on fierce local rivals Featherstone Rovers in the iconic inaugural imaginary Chris Spurr Cup on Sunday afternoon in a very special live tweet event.

The Knights have named a strong line up to face the three-time Challenge Cup winners, as Head Coach James Ford rolls back the years by naming himself at centre, and former fans favourite Ben Cockayne on the bench.

The all-important 21 man squad will be announced in full today.

Rovers have unsurprisingly decided to name a strong team in their quest for virtual Chris Spurr Cup glory.

Percy the Pit Pony captains the team from loose forward, and in an unexpected twist, Rovers have also selected Dane Chisholm in both half back positions and as referee.

The virtual game will kick off at 3pm on Sunday (22nd March), and will be 'live tweeted' from the Knights twitter account.

From tomorrow, the will be lunching a special 'Virtual Match Day' at their online shop, where Knights fans can continue to support the club financially if they wish to do so, by purchasing items they usually would at Bootham Crescent such as a Pie & Pint, and have a bit of fun ahead of this special Twitter event which starts at 3pm.
