Bradford Bulls sign Matty Dawson-Jones

Bradford Bulls have confirmed the acquisition of Matty Dawson-Jones on a one-year deal ahead of the 2020 Betfred Championship season.

The 29-year-old winger made 50 appearances for St Helens between 2014 and 2016, crossing for 16 tries before scoring 24 in 38 games for Leigh Centurions.

Dawson-Jones scored on his Hull FC debut in the Hull derby however injuries meant this was his solitary appearance for the Airlie Birds.

Dawson-Jones said: “I am over the moon to be a Bradford player – after a year out I needed to get back playing and to get interest from a club like the Bulls was massive.

“Being able to work for a coach of John Kear’s stature too was a huge part of the decision. He is a top-quality coach and working for him is a great opportunity for me to kickstart my career again.

“I have been around the block for a bit now and had some experience in Super League but there is a great training facility at Tong which is a Super League quality facility.

“I am looking forward to getting in and getting started – hopefully I can help some of the younger lads, but I can still learn as well. I can still develop my game.

“I will give 100% every week for the supporters to try and give them what they deserve and try to get Bradford fighting for the top spots to get back into Super League.

Head Coach, John Kear, said: “He is a quality recruit. He is a Super League quality player with extensive experience on the wing and in the centres and I am delighted he has agreed to join us.

“He will bring experience amongst our many exciting young players and what I like about him is he is willing to do the dirty work and put a good shift in – he is a very good finisher as well.

“It is a statement of intent because he is quality – quality players coming into what I fell is a quality club, into a quality squad and his signing represents another step forward.”

Bradford Bulls are set to begin their Betfred Championship campaign against London Broncos at the Tetley’s Stadium on Sunday 2nd February.
