This week’s Checkatrade Try of the Week features tries from the Betfred Super League Play-Offs, the Betfred League 1 Play-Off Final, the National Conference League Division One and Premier Division Grand Finals and the Betfred Women’s Super League Semi-Finals – what a collection of contenders!
Jimmy Beckett (Oldham RLFC)
Oldham sealed promotion back to the Betfred Championship with a narrow 18-14 victory over Newcastle Thunder and it was Jimmy Beckett’s try that proved the difference. In the closing stages, Becket came on an inside ball and sliced through the Thunder defence to confirm promotion.
Abby Eatock (Leeds Rhinos)
Leeds Rhinos inflicted semi-final heartbreak on St Helens once more in the Women’s game as Abby Eatock crossed in the dying moments of the game at the Totally Wicked Stadium. A Courtney Hill bomb bounced back into the hands of the half-back who found Eatock in support to finish in the corner.
Matthew Plummer (West Hull)
You may not see a more dramatic and important try than Matthew Plummer’s effort for West Hull this weekend. West Hull and Thatto Heath Crusaders went into Golden Point Extra-Time in the National Conference League Grand Final and, with the drop-goal closed down by the Crusaders, West Hull threw the ball wide for Matthew Plummer to spark scenes of jubilation.
Bevan French (Wigan Warriors)
It wasn’t to be for Wigan Warriors in their Betfred Super League Semi-Final with Salford Red Devils but there only try was the pick of the bunch. A kick forward from Sean O’Loughlin was latched on to by the pacey Bevan French who scored what turned out to be a mere consolation for Adrian Lam’s side.
Tara Stanley (Castleford Tigers)
Castleford Tigers have played an expansive brand of Rugby League in the Betfred Women’s Super League throughout 2019 and that was on display once more as they progressed to the Grand Final in comfortable fashion against Wigan Warriors. A flowing move in the first half saw Tara Stanley
Jake Perkins (Featherstone Lions)
Featherstone Lions earned promotion to the National Conference League Premier Division thanks to victory over Stanningley at the LD Nutrition Stadium and it was Jake Perkins’ try that was the catalyst for their win. Perkins latched onto a neat offload before rounding two Stanningley defenders to score.
