Senior Aircraftman Scott Stevenson will be remembered at all levels of Rugby League this weekend, as the game mourns his loss at the age of 25 after being injured playing for the Royal Air Force against the Army.
One minute’s silence will be observed before tonight’s Betfred Super League Play-Off between Warrington Wolves and Castleford Tigers at the Halliwell Jones Stadium – and again before Saturday’s Betfred Championship Play-Off between York City Knights, where Scott played at Under-18 level, and Featherstone Rovers.
There will be further tributes at the Yorkshire Men’s League Finals Day at the LD Nutrition Stadium in Featherstone on Saturday afternoon, and later that evening before the Wheelchair Super League Grand Final in Kent.
The UK Armed Forces Rugby League issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming that the final round of matches in the Inter-Services competition between the RAF and the Royal Navy will go ahead in Featherstone on Friday night – having considered the wishes of Scott’s family, and the players and staff of the RAF and Royal Navy.
The statement concluded: “There will be a tribute of a minute’s silence prior to the Academy and Women’s fixtures, with a minute’s applause conducted prior to the Men’s 1st XIII game, to allow respects to be paid to Scott Stevenson.”
