Challenge Cup Third Round Saturday Wrap-Up

12-man Thatto Heath Crusaders enjoyed a 30-24 victory in a closely-fought battle against Rochdale Mayfield, live on the BBC Sport website.

Mike Stark and Niall Allen both struck for the hosts but they were dealt a big blow as Jamie Tracy received a red card.

This inspired Mayfield as Zak Baker and Jack McGoneghie struck in quick succession but Adam Saunders’ try just before the break gave St Helens based Thatto Heath a 16-8 lead.

Despite their one-man deficit, Crusaders stretched their legs as Saunders then bagged his second before Heyes then went in for another two to complete his hat-trick as the hosts went 30-8 up.

Rochdale launched a late assault with Nick Hargreaves, Cameron Connelly and Kirk Holt narrowing the gap to 30-24, but Thatto Heath held on to secure their fourth round spot.

Elsewhere, Lock Lane progressed thanks to a 24-4 victory over Wigan St Judes. Craig Savage, Chris Siddons, Lewis Price and Jack Lee all scored for the Castleford-based side.

Featherstone Lions are the third community club through to round four with a 20-10 win at York Acorn.

Bradford-based West Bowling were unable to come close to an upset against Hunslet, falling to a 10-56 defeat at Hunslet. Marcus Webb scored a hat-trick whilst Tom Ashton and Cain Southernwood both bagged two for the League 1 side.

Newcastle Thunder enjoyed a 48-0 win over West Wales Raiders, with Keal Carlile and Mo Agoro both bagging braces for the hosts.

On Friday, Doncaster prevailed against Coventry Bears in another all-League 1 clash. The Dons won 38-18.
