England Women fell to defeat against the Australia Jillaroos on Saturday as the world champions proved too strong in their second group stage outing at HBF Park in Perth.
Stuart Barrow's side were punished for a number of early errors and Australia took advantage through Jaime Chapman, who crossed twice in quick succession to give the hosts an early lead.
England thought they had a route back into the contest when Anna Davies finished in the corner, but the effort was ruled out after she was deemed to have been in touch.
The Jillaroos continued to build momentum, with Tamika Upton sending Jocelyn Kelleher over for Australia's third try.
Further scores from Julia Robinson, Kelleher again, Isabelle Kelly and Abbi Church helped the hosts establish a commanding advantage by the break.
Australia maintained their intensity throughout the second half and added further tries through Tarryn Aiken, Olivia Kernick, Quincy Dodd, Church again, Makenzie Weale, Tiana Penitani Gray, Kelly's second, and Shaylee Bent to complete the scoring of 15 tries.
England Women will now turn their attention to next week's clash with Samoa, with a place in the semi-finals on the line in a winner-takes-all encounter.
