England Women name squad for World Cup showdown with Australia Jillaroos

England Women head coach Stuart Barrow has named his squad for Saturday’s Rugby League World Cup clash with the Australia Jillaroos at HBF Park in Perth (KO 10.05am).

Wigan Warriors prop Lucie Sams will make her international debut against the world champions after an impressive season at club level. Sams has also spent time at the top level in netball and rugby union and has already won the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup twice in her young career.

Amelia Brown retains her place on the wing following an outstanding display against Wales in England’s opening match. The 22-year-old scored twice and made 135 metres, with her 107.8-metre effort believed to be among the longest-range tries in World Cup history.

Isabel Rowe will line up in the halves alongside Wigan teammate Jenna Foubister. The 19-year-old scored two tries and kicked nine goals against Wales, finishing with 26 points to equal Natalie Gilmour’s record for the most points scored by an England Women player in an international match.

Centre Connie Boyd also keeps her place in the starting 13 after a dream England debut. The Women’s Super League Young Player of the Year scored twice in the first half before completing her hat-trick after the break.
