The last time England WON at Wembley Stadium against Australia

A trip down memory lane from when England last defeated Australia - and at Wembley Stadium too!

Who remembers when the 1995 Rugby League World Cup got underway at Wembley Stadium with England facing Australia?

Did you know this was England’s last win over the Kangaroos?

When the two rivals clash at Wembley Stadium in Saturday’s opening ABK Beer Ashes Test, it will mark 30 years since their last win over the Green and Golds.

The 1995 World Cup saw these Rugby League giants face off twice under the lights at the famous Wembley – firstly in the opening match of the competition, before the World Cup Final exactly three weeks later.

This opening match was a thrilling spectacle watched by 41,271 fans in the capital.

Steve Menzies' double and Mark Coyne's try were not enough for the Aussies, as Andy Farrell, Chris Joynt and Jason Robinson all got on the scoresheet that day.

This was before Paul Newlove's magnificent match-winning interception try on the 74th minute, which memorably sent the crowd into raptures as England sealed a 20-16 victory.
