Tara Jones will make more history this Sunday when she becomes the first woman to referee the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final.
Jones, a member of the England World Cup squad in 2022 who was also the first woman to score a try in a senior cup final at Wembley the following year, joined the RFL’s full-time match officials squad last winter.
Phil Bentham, the RFL’s head of match officials, said:
“Tara was the outstanding candidate for this appointment. She has made excellent progress in her first season as a member of our full-time squad, earning appointments to referee fixtures in the Betfred Championship, and as a touch judge in the Betfred Super League.
“She has first-hand experience of playing in the Super League, and to see a woman earning the appointment to referee the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final for the first time can only be inspirational for the younger generations of female officials who are making progress in our system.”
The 2025 Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final kicks off at The Brick Community Stadium on Sunday evening at 5:30pm, as the League Leaders Shield winners Wigan Warriors host second-placed St Helens, with live coverage on Sky Sports.
