inspiresport Champion Schools Year 10 Girls’ Final to take place at AMT Headingley Stadium for the first time

The Year 10 Girls’ inspiresport Champion Schools Final will take place on Sunday 15 June as part of a historic triple header of Women’s and Girls’ Rugby League at AMT Headingley Stadium with Leeds Rhinos taking on Warrington Wolves in both the U19s and Betfred Women’s Super League.
Following impressive displays in the regional and national qualifiers, The Deanery (Wigan) will take on Archbishop Sentamu Academy (Hull) in Leeds with both teams unbeaten during the national festival. Now, the future stars of the game will have the chance to impress at a stadium synonymous with the women’s game with AMT Headingley hosting several England Women fixtures since the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.
Archbishop Sentamu will have three other girls’ sides involved in Champion Schools Finals Day in July, after their Year 7, 8 and 9 teams also triumphed at the national event.
The Hull schools Year 7 team defeated Ysgol Glantaf (Cardiff) 20-18, Year 9 ran out 26-0 winners against St Oscar Romeros and the Year 8 Girls finished the event as runners up, just a point behind first place.
Awaiting the three Archbishop Sentamu teams at Wakefield Trinity’s DIY Kitchens Stadium on Wednesday 2 July will be Airedale Academy (Wakefield, Year 7) St Bede’s & St Joseph’s (Bradford, Year 8) and Bedford High School (Leigh, Year 9). Airedale defeated The Deanery (Wigan) 22-6, while St Bede’s came through the national festival unbeaten and Bedford beat Cowley 14-4 to qualify for their first Girls’ Final.
Champion Schools is the RFL’s flagship schools competition, involving local and regional stages, then national competitions for girls and boys at years 7-11. The girls’ competition began in 2004 and has grown incrementally, making Champion Schools the largest Rugby League competition in the world.
