Lee Briers named as England Men's Assistant Coach

England Men’s Head Coach Shaun Wane has confirmed Lee Briers will join Andy Last as an Assistant Coach ahead of this Autumn’s three-match Test Series against Tonga.

Briers has spent time in both the Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors coaching set-ups in recent seasons and is now plying his trade in Australia with Brisbane Broncos who finished the regular NRL season in second spot.

On the appointment, Wane said: “I’ve been really impressed with Lee [Briers] and I know him very well from coaching against him in his Warrington days and working with him in his Wigan days. 

“He’s a player I’ve always admired, and he’s an even better coach. He’s a very smart coach and his impact can already be seen with Brisbane this season. 

“He’s also a really good bloke and he’ll bring a lot us a lot. He’s the one that pushed it. He wants to be involved and has shown that desire.” 

Briers joins Last who has been involved with the England Men’s side since 2021 and was part of Wane’s coaching team on route to last year’s Rugby League World Cup Semi-Final.  

Wane added: “I also need to mention Andy [Last] as well. He’s been with me from the start, and he’s been great for me. I’m very happy that I now have two very good assistants in place.” 

Briers first game as Assistant Coach will take place on Sunday 22 October in the first of the three-match Test Series with Tonga at the Totally Wicked Stadium, St Helens.
