Betfred Championship Round-Up | Round 14

Round 14 of the Betfred Championship kicked-off on Friday evening as Sheffield Eagles hosted York Knights.

Ben Jones-Bishop opened the scoring with his 200th career try, before Matty Dawson-Jones went over for the Eagles’ second of the afternoon.

Chris Clarkson struck back for the visitors, but late tries from Kris Welham and Anthony Thackeray gave Sheffield a 22-6 lead at the break.

The Eagles added further tries in the second half, which included Welham completing his hat-trick during the 40-10 win for the hosts.

On Saturday, Featherstone suffered their first defeat in the Betfred Championship this season.

Despite struggling on the road in recent weeks, Toulouse took the lead through Guy Armitage.

Craig Hall hit back for Featherstone, but it was swiftly countered with a Pierre-Jean Lima try. Luke Briscoe crossed before the break to send Featherstone into half-time trailing 12-8.

The sides continued to trade tries as Chris Hankinson levelled the score at 18-18 after 55 minutes.

Paul Marcon, Dominique Peryoux and Guy Armitage all scored tries in the final quarter for Toulouse, as they inflicted the first defeat on Featherstone.

A late Jarrod Sammut try saw Barrow defeat Keighley.

Barrow took the lead through Anton Iaria, however, Keighley lead at the break after tries from Josh Lynam and Alix Stephenson.

Luke Broadbent went over for Barrow, before being pulled behind again as Stephenson scored his second.

Sammut’s try nine minutes from the end was converted by Shaw during the 18-16 Barrow win.

Bradford Bulls continued their fine form, with a win at Odsal against London Broncos.

Ben Blackmore scored for the Bulls, along with braces from Kieran Gill and Tom Holmes.

Bradford sit fifth in the Betfred Championship.

Halifax produced a strong second half display to defeat Swinton.

The sides were locked together at 8-8 when the half-time hooter sounded. But Simon Grix’s side scored 38 unanswered second half points.

Betfred Championship top scorer, Lachlan Walmsley scored four tries during the Panthers’ victory.

Whitehaven moved up to ninth after defeating Widnes Vikings in Cumbria.

Haven had defeated second place Sheffield last weekend and followed that with a very impressive win.

Chris Taylor scored two of the six Whitehaven tries during the 36-12 win.

A sixth consecutive victory for Batley, saw the Bulldogs draw level on points with second place Sheffield Eagles.

Batley went into the break with a 10-6 lead at Kingston Park.

Craig Lingard’s sided added three second half tries which saw them defeat Newcastle Thunder 12-26.
