New Junior Touch Rugby opportunities in the North East

New Junior Touch Rugby opportunities in the North East

Teenagers in the North East are being encouraged to take part in a new Touch Rugby program that has been designed to give local young people the chance to represent the region at a national level.

North East Raiders will be delivering development sessions on behalf of RFL partner, England Touch Association (ETA), to boys and girls aged between 12-19 from this Sunday (May 21.) The training is open to players of any ability and will help develop their technical skills in a fun and friendly environment.

The hope is that this new program will lead to the formation of a regional boys and girls playing squad who will get the chance to represent the North East at the Junior Nationals later this year. The Nationals are ETA’s showcase event and is the main pathway in which players can qualify to represent England in international competitions.

Touch Rugby is:

· a minimal contact version of Rugby League;

· open to any aged player, with any fitness level or sporting ability and teams are mixed gender;

· a 6-a-side game played on a pitch dimension of 70m X 50m. However, as little as 3-a-side games can take place, with adjustments to the pitch size;

· a games of two x 20-minute halves; perfect for beginners or families looking to get fit in a fun and sociable setting.

Sunday is the first of three training sessions with another two scheduled to take place on July 1 and 15.
