Betfred Championship Round-Up | Round 27

Betfred Championship table-toppers Leigh Centurions closed their regular season with an 11-try victory over Batley Bulldogs.

The League Leaders Shield winners finished the campaign with 26 victories and a solitary defeat as once again they comfortably outscored their opponents in a 64-6 sucess.

Leigh were 36-0 up at half-time with Kai O'Donnell, Blake Ferguson, Krisnan Inu, Aaron Smith, Caleb Aekins and Nene Macdonald all touching down.

Tom Gilmore put the visitors on the board early in the second half but that was quickly negated as Inu, O'Donnell and Smith all scored their second tries before Josh Charnley and Ben Reynolds got themselves on the scoresheet.

Featherstone Rovers, who finished second and will also receive a week off as they progress to the play-off semi-finals, survived a late fightback by Halifax Panthers to make it eight successive wins against their opponents with a 24-22 victory.

The visitors were 24-12 up at the break thanks to tries from Junior Moors, Jack Broadbent, Tom Lineham and Joey Leilua but Matt Garside's score midway through the second half was followed by Zack McComb's a minute before time to set up a close finish.

York City Knights rounded off their regular season by running in 13 tries in a 74-12 victory over relegated Workington Town.

Having gone behind to Malik Steele's third-minute try the hosts responded with scores for Ronan Michael, Liam Harris, Danny Kirmond, Joe Brown and James Glover making it 26-12 at the break.

In the second half Knights ran in eight unanswered tries from Harris, who completed his hat-trick with a brace, Glover, Joe Porter, Tommy Inman, Brendan O’Hagan, Chris Clarkson and Brown.

Fourth-placed Barrow Raiders' 30-20 win, which included two tries for Tee Ritson, at London Broncos ensured they have home advantage in next week's play-off against Batley.

The only Sunday match not involving a play-off side saw Widnes Vikings win 23-10 at Bradford Bulls.

In Saturday's solitary game Whitehaven ran out 40-24 winners over Newcastle Thunder.
