Betfred Super League Round 20 Round-Up

Jack Welsby drop-kicked a golden point goal to give St Helens a dramatic 13-12 comeback victory in their top-versus-bottom Betfred Super League clash against Wakefield at Belle Vue. Saints, who now lead second-placed Wigan by six points, trailed 12-0 after 55 minutes.

Tries by wingers Regan Grace and Jon Bennison, plus two Jonny Lomax conversions, brought the visitors level. Both sides wasted chances to snatch victory in normal time and Jacob Miller fluffed his lines in extra time before Welsby struck after Lomax slipped lining up his own shot.

Leeds produced their best performance of the season to turn the tables on Wigan with a 42-12 victory at Headingley that kept alive their play-off hopes. Six days after being well beaten by relegation-threatened Toulouse, the Rhinos turned on the style with a seven-try victory.

Wigan, who handed a debut to England prop Mike Cooper following his arrival from Warrington, were a shadow of the team that gained a 60-0 win over Hull just seven days earlier.

Liam Sutcliffe, James Bentley, Rhyse Martin, Harry Newman, Brad Dwyer and Muiz Mustapha all scored tries for Leeds.

Ethan Ryan claimed his 100th career try as Hull KR kept their play-off hopes alive with a dramatic 30-22 victory over Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones stadium.

The Robins battled back from deficits of 14-0 at half-time and then 22-12 but tries from Matt Parcell, Ryan's milestone try and Sam Royle, all converted by Lachlan Coote in the final 14 minutes saw Rovers roar back to claim a superb backs to the wall victory.

Derrell Olpherts scored four tries as Castleford Tigers produced a stunning second-half performance to blow Hull FC off the park and claim a vital two points against one of their rivals for the top six.

Hull battled back from eight points down to take a slender lead into the break but after the restart the home side collapsed with Castleford registering six second-half tries without reply, four of which whilst having a player in the sin bin, to claim a 46-18 win.

Sam Tomkins was the hero as Catalans Dragons returned to winning ways in Perpignan with a 13-12 victory over Huddersfield that enabled them to leapfrog their opponents in the table.

The Giants looked to have overcome sweltering 33-degree heat to gain a third win of the season over the French side when Will Pryce kicked a long-range penalty to put his side 12-10 ahead with 15 minutes to go. But England captain Tomkins levelled with a penalty and slotted a drop goal a minute from time.

Salford bolstered their play-off hopes with a hard-fought 24-11 victory away in Toulouse.
