Betfred Championship Round 14 Round-Up

Betfred Championship Round 14 Round-Up

Leigh moved top of the Betfred Championship on Sunday with a 36-0 win over Halifax.

With Featherstone not in action until Monday, the Centurions leapfrogged their rivals with a convincing six-try display against the Panthers at Leigh Sports Village.

Blake Ferguson and Nene MacDonald claimed two tries apiece for Adrian Lam's side with Ben Reynolds and Ata Hingano also getting on the scoresheet.

Third-placed York staged a stunning fightback to snatch a 36-34 win over struggling London Broncos at the LNER Community Stadium.

Tries from Lewis Bienek, Bradley Forster and Daniel Hoyes helped the Broncos into an 18-6 half-time lead with Liam Harris replying.

York stepped up after the break as Jordan Thompson and Matty Marsh crossed to level the scores.

London went back ahead with Iliess Macani and Alex Walker tries but a double from AJ Towse and another effort from Liam Harris put York in front. Jude Ferreira went over as the Broncos refused to throw in the towel but York held on.

Dale Morton helped himself to four tries as Batley overpowered bottom side Workington 46-0.

Tom Gilmore also scored 18 points with a try and seven goals with further tries coming from Lucas Walshaw, Luke Hooley and Josh Hodson.

Jarrod Sammut scored 18 points as Barrow were equally impressive in scoring a 44-4 win over Widnes. The veteran half-back claimed two of the Raiders' eight tries and kicked five goals.

Tee Ritson also scored a brace with further touchdowns from Jarrad Stack, Ellis Gillam, Matt Costello and Dan Toal. Ryan Ince ran in the Vikings' sole try.

Anthony Thackeray scored two tries either side of setting another up for Josh Guzdek to put Sheffield on track for a 31-18 win at Newcastle. Thackeray later added a drop goal while Izaac Farrell scored 14 points with a try and five goals. Matty Chrimes claimed the Eagles' other try.

Whitehaven scored three unanswered tries in the second half as they overturned an 18-8 deficit to win 26-18 at Dewsbury. Ryan King, Dion Aiye and Nikau Williams added to Andrew Bulman's first-half score after two tries from Andy Gabriel and another from Adam Ryder had put the Rams in charge.
